Authorities in our business will tell in no uncertain terms that Lorem Ipsum is that huge, huge no no to forswear forever. Not so fast, I'd say, there are some redeeming factors in favor of greeking text, as its use is merely the symptom of a worse problem to take into consideration.
Anyway, you still use Lorem Ipsum and rightly so, as it will always have a place in the web workers toolbox, as things happen, not always the way you like it, not always in the preferred order.

Grade 3 English Willow at a Glance
- Appearance: Grade 3 typically has straighter grains than Grade 4, though they may still be uneven. Expect minor blemishes, specks or small butterfly marks. These are cosmetic only.
- Durability & Strength: A reliable club grade that stands up well to regular nets, academy sessions and club matches.
- Preparation: Machine pre-knocked before dispatch. Give it a short finishing knock-in and a few throwdowns with older balls before match use.
- Ideal For: Academy, club and advanced players who want solid, reliable power and a genuine English Willow feel for the price.
Why Vulpinus?
The Vulpinus is built for cricketers moving beyond beginner level into competitive club cricket. It is handcrafted in India from hand-picked Grade 3 English Willow, for good ping and balance at a value price.
Each bat is shaped by hand to hit the target weight of up to 1,190g, with 38–40mm edges for power and forgiveness on mistimed shots. Because every cleft is different, the profile varies slightly from bat to bat.
A semi-oval Singapore cane handle absorbs shock and suits 360° shot-making, and the ring chevron grip gives a secure, non-slip feel.
Why Wolfer?
Every Wolfer bat is hand picked by players who have actually played the game, not just factory workers ticking boxes.
Each bat is tested for weight, balance and ping before it's approved, so what reaches you is a bat that's actually been checked by someone who knows what a good pickup feels like.
Who Is It Suitable For?
- Intermediate and advanced club cricketers
- Academy players upgrading to English Willow
- Top and middle-order batters who want a light, balanced bat
- Academies and teams buying in bulk
- Leather ball cricket on UK, India and Australia pitches, turf and mats
Compare: Vulpinus vs Tarsier vs Leopon
All three are fully pressed, lightweight Wolfer bats with edges up to 40mm and a maximum weight of 1,190g. The Tarsier is our Grade 4 option. The Leopon is our select Grade 3+, picked for a cleaner face, more grains and a lighter weight.

| Grains | 5+ | 4 to 8 | More than standard Grade 3 |
| Grain structure | Typically straighter than Grade 4, though may still be uneven | Less consistent or visibly irregular | Straighter and more even than standard Grade 3 |
| Appearance | Fewer marks than Grade 4 | Wider or irregular grains, visible natural marks | Cleaner face, picked lighter |
| Blemishes & marks | Minor blemishes, specks or small butterfly marks | May have more prominent marks, stronger grain variation and heavier blemishes | Fewer and smaller marks than standard Grade 3 |
| Performance | Solid, reliable power and a genuine English Willow feel for the price | Plays well for club and nets. Slightly less responsive than higher grades, though some Grade 4 bats beat higher grades | Solid, reliable power and a genuine English Willow feel for the price |

Appearance vs performance: Bat grading is based mainly on looks (the number of grains, how clean the face is, and the absence of knots or stains) rather than how hard the ball comes off the middle. A well-pressed Grade 3 or Grade 4 bat can still perform very well.

Product Disclaimer
Cricket bats are handcrafted from natural English Willow, so each one is unique.
Weight: Each bat is weighed when it leaves the factory, with the grip on but before the branded stickers are applied. We aim to keep the final weight of all our bats under 1,190g, but local conditions such as moisture where the bat is shipped can increase or decrease the weight by a few grams.
Never store cricket bats in car boots or trunks as excessive heat may cause cracking and reduce bat life.
Each cricket bat is unique and may feature minor cosmetic variations.
Choose your bat size by height first, then age. If you are between two sizes, pick the smaller one: a bat that is too long is harder to control. The sizes available for this bat are shown in the options above Add to Cart.
| Bat Size | Player Height | Approx. Age |
|---|---|---|
| Size 0 | Under 4ft (under 122cm) | 4 and under |
| Size 1 | 4ft – 4ft 3in (122–130cm) | 4–5 years |
| Size 2 | 4ft 3in – 4ft 6in (130–137cm) | 6–7 years |
| Size 3 | 4ft 6in – 4ft 9in (137–145cm) | 8–9 years |
| Size 4 | 4ft 9in – 4ft 11in (145–150cm) | 9–10 years |
| Size 5 | 4ft 11in – 5ft 2in (150–157cm) | 10–11 years |
| Size 6 | 5ft 2in – 5ft 5in (157–165cm) | 12–13 years |
| Harrow | 5ft 5in – 5ft 8in (165–173cm) | 13–15 years |
| Short Handle (SH) | 5ft 8in – 6ft 2in (173–188cm) | 15+ years and adults |
| Long Handle (LH) | Over 6ft 2in (over 188cm) | Adults |
Quick check: stand with the bat beside your leg, toe on the ground. The top of the handle should sit around the top of your thigh, at your hip. Sizes vary slightly between brands, so message us on WhatsApp if you are unsure.
A bat's profile is the shape of the blade from the side. It decides where the sweet spot sits and how light the bat feels to pick up. Match the profile to the way you score your runs.
| Profile | Suited For |
|---|---|
| Low (bottom-heavy) | Front-foot drivers who want maximum carry on full-length deliveries; slow, low pitches |
| Mid / Extended Mid | All-rounders who play every format and want a big, forgiving sweet spot |
| Duckbill (thick toe) | Power hitters who drive full balls and want solid wood low down for lofted straight drives and yorkers |
| Hawkbill (thin toe) | Back-foot players and T20 hitters who want a lighter pickup and faster hands for pulls, hooks, cuts and late shots |
This bat: profile varies by bat. Each Vulpinus is shaped by hand to hit the target weight, so the exact profile differs slightly from bat to bat. Message us on WhatsApp for the profile of current stock.
Read the full Cricket Bat Profiles guide →Use this guide as a general reference for choosing the right bat weight for your batting style. It applies to adult (Short Handle and Long Handle) Wolfer cricket bats. The weight range for this bat is listed in its specifications.
| Weight | Grams | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| 2lb 7oz | 1,106g | Very light pickup, wristy stroke makers |
| 2lb 8oz | 1,134g | Ultra-light stroke makers |
| 2lb 9oz | 1,162g | Balanced power and pickup |
| 2lb 10oz | 1,191g | Club cricket standard |
| 2lb 11oz | 1,219g | Power hitters |
| 2lb 12oz | 1,247g | Finishers |
Tip: choose a weight you can control through a full innings. A lighter bat with good balance usually scores more runs than a heavier bat you have to muscle.
Cricket Bat Care and Maintenance
A well-maintained cricket bat performs better and lasts longer.
Proper bat care helps protect the willow, and reduce the chance of avoidable damage.
Unattended cracks can lead to bat damage.
Too much moisture and extreme hot conditions are both bad for the bat.
How to examine if a bat has dried up?
- Have a close look at your bat. The dried willow will lose all its shine and will look rough.
- When your bat starts sounding off, the most probable cause: it has dried up.
- What to do? Use a small amount of raw linseed oil on the face, edges, toe, and back of the bat.
- Avoid the stickers, splice, and handle during application.
- Apply oil lightly with a soft cloth or fingertips rather than soaking the willow.
- Let the bat rest in a cool, dry place after oiling.
- Two thin coats are usually enough for regular maintenance.
- Never stand the bat in a vertical position after oiling. Always keep it horizontal for at least 24 hours after oiling.
- Remember: A bat that retains moisture, performs the best.
- A common misconception: Older bats do not need oiling.
- Fact: Newer bats seldom need oiling.
Cricket Bat Storage, the correct way
- Store your English Willow cricket bat in a cool, dry space away from direct sunlight and strong heat.
- Keep it in a padded cover or case when not in use.
- Avoid leaving it in damp kit bags or hot vehicle boots for extended periods.
- If storing it long term, clean it properly and apply a light maintenance coat if needed.
When your bat needs attention
If the face starts looking dry, seam marks deepen quickly, or fine cracks begin to appear, stop use and inspect it carefully.
Small issues are easier to manage early, especially on a premium Wolfer English Willow cricket bat.
Knocking in your cricket bat
Your Vulpinus bat is machine pre-knocked before dispatch. A short finishing knock-in by hand is still recommended, as it prepares the willow for match impact by gradually compressing the fibres.
This helps the blade handle repeated ball contact more effectively and lowers the chance of early damage.
Manual knocking in
- Use a proper bat mallet or an older cricket ball for controlled preparation.
- Start with gentle taps on the face, do not knock the edges, round them using your mallet's handle, be gentle on the toe.
- Avoid striking the splice or handle directly.
- Increase pressure gradually over multiple sessions instead of rushing it.
- Focus on even preparation across the blade.
How long the process should take
A proper knocking-in process should take place over several hours and across multiple sessions.
Even if your English Willow bat feels strong out of the box, it still benefits from a careful preparation phase before full match use.
Before full match play
After knocking in, use the bat in throwdowns or light net sessions with older balls before facing harder new balls.
This final stage helps confirm that your English Willow bat is ready while allowing the willow to settle naturally.

What is the difference between Grade 3 and Grade 4 English Willow?+−
Grade 3 willow typically has straighter grains and fewer marks than Grade 4, usually 5 or more grains with minor blemishes, specks or small butterfly marks. Grade 4 grains are less consistent or visibly irregular, with more prominent marks. The difference is mainly cosmetic. Compare with our Tarsier Grade 4.
