Why Wolfer?
Every Wolfer bat is hand picked by players who have actually played the game, not just factory workers ticking boxes.
Each bat is tested for weight, balance and ping before it's approved, so what reaches you is a bat that's actually been checked by someone who knows what a good pickup feels like.
Why Tigon?
Grade 1 English Willow gives the Tigon strong rebound and a big sweet spot, so you can generate real power without forcing every shot.
Clean, straight grains keep the willow consistent, which gives the bat its sharp ping straight out of the box. A deep spine, thick 38–40mm edges, a thick toe and minimal concaving put plenty of wood behind the ball, while keeping the weight under 1,190g for a light pickup.
Each Tigon is shaped by our most experienced craftsmen, with a Singapore cane handle, and is built for players competing at a serious standard.
Who Is It Suitable For?
- Advanced club players who want a top-grade bat without going fully custom
- Players moving up from Grade 2, 3 or 4 willow who want a clear step up in ping and finish
- Semi-pro and pro-level batters who need a bat within MCC and ICC regulations
- Front-foot batters and power hitters who want big edges and a thick toe
- Anyone who wants a clean face, minimal blemishes and genuine Grade 1 willow
Tigon vs Player's Grade
Both are Wolfer Duckbill bats with 38–40mm edges. The Tigon is Grade 1 willow with a deeper spine; Player's Grade is the next grade up.
| Feature | Tigon | Player's Grade |
|---|---|---|
| Willow grade | Grade 1 | Player's Grade (above Grade 1) |
| Grains | Usually 6–10 straight | Minimum 8 straight |
| Profile | Duckbill, deep spine, minimal concaving | Duckbill, extended sweet spot |
| Edges | 38–40mm | 38–40mm |
| Weight | Up to 1,190g | Approx. 1,160–1,190g |
Want a higher grain count? See the Wolfer Player's Grade bat.
Grade
Wolfer Tigon Grade 1 English Willow Cricket Bat.
What does it mean? Grade 1 willow has a clean playing face with no stains or butterfly marks, straight grains and a good balance of heartwood and sapwood. It is the grade most advanced club and pro players choose.
Grains
Usually 6–10 straight, almost parallel grains.
What do grains mean for my cricket bat? More grains usually mean denser willow, better ping and less knocking in. A 10-grain bat can feel a touch fuller and may mature faster. Bats with 6–8 grains can perform just as well, but usually need more knocking in and often give a lighter feel with a longer life.
Profile
Duckbill: deep spine, thick edges and a thick toe, with minimal concaving. Plenty of wood behind the ball for drives, full balls and 360-degree T20 hitting.
Thickness
38–40mm edges to achieve the desired weight and remain MCC compliant.
Weight
Up to 1,190g (2lb 10oz), to suit most batting styles with a light pickup, good balance and ping.
Handle and Grip
Singapore cane handle with a ring chevron grip for control and shock absorption.
Knocking In
Machine pre-knocked before dispatch. We recommend a short finishing knock-in and a few throwdowns with older balls before match use.

Product Disclaimer
Cricket bats are handcrafted from natural English Willow. Each bat is weighed individually, and its exact weight varies within the stated range because of wood density and moisture content.
Never store cricket bats in car boots or trunks as excessive heat may cause cracking and reduce bat life.
Each cricket bat is unique and may feature minor cosmetic variations.
Choose your bat size by height first, then age. If you are between two sizes, pick the smaller one: a bat that is too long is harder to control. The sizes available for this bat are shown in the options above Add to Cart.
| Bat Size | Player Height | Approx. Age |
|---|---|---|
| Size 0 | Under 4ft (under 122cm) | 4 and under |
| Size 1 | 4ft – 4ft 3in (122–130cm) | 4–5 years |
| Size 2 | 4ft 3in – 4ft 6in (130–137cm) | 6–7 years |
| Size 3 | 4ft 6in – 4ft 9in (137–145cm) | 8–9 years |
| Size 4 | 4ft 9in – 4ft 11in (145–150cm) | 9–10 years |
| Size 5 | 4ft 11in – 5ft 2in (150–157cm) | 10–11 years |
| Size 6 | 5ft 2in – 5ft 5in (157–165cm) | 12–13 years |
| Harrow | 5ft 5in – 5ft 8in (165–173cm) | 13–15 years |
| Short Handle (SH) | 5ft 8in – 6ft 2in (173–188cm) | 15+ years and adults |
| Long Handle (LH) | Over 6ft 2in (over 188cm) | Adults |
Quick check: stand with the bat beside your leg, toe on the ground. The top of the handle should sit around the top of your thigh, at your hip. Sizes vary slightly between brands, so message us on WhatsApp if you are unsure.
A bat's profile is the shape of the blade from the side. It decides where the sweet spot sits and how light the bat feels to pick up. Match the profile to the way you score your runs.
| Profile | Suited For |
|---|---|
| Low (bottom-heavy) | Front-foot drivers who want maximum carry on full-length deliveries; slow, low pitches |
| Mid / Extended Mid | All-rounders who play every format and want a big, forgiving sweet spot |
| Duckbill (thick toe) | Power hitters who drive full balls and want solid wood low down for lofted straight drives and yorkers |
| Hawkbill (thin toe) | Back-foot players and T20 hitters who want a lighter pickup and faster hands for pulls, hooks, cuts and late shots |
This bat: Duckbill (thick toe). Deep spine and minimal concaving put solid wood low on the blade, suited for front-foot batters and power hitters who drive full balls.
Read the full Cricket Bat Profiles guide →Use this guide as a general reference for choosing the right bat weight for your batting style. It applies to adult (Short Handle and Long Handle) Wolfer cricket bats. The weight range for this bat is listed in its specifications.
| Weight | Grams | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| 2lb 7oz | 1,106g | Very light pickup, wristy stroke makers |
| 2lb 8oz | 1,134g | Ultra-light stroke makers |
| 2lb 9oz | 1,162g | Balanced power and pickup |
| 2lb 10oz | 1,191g | Club cricket standard |
| 2lb 11oz | 1,219g | Power hitters |
| 2lb 12oz | 1,247g | Finishers |
Tip: choose a weight you can control through a full innings. A lighter bat with good balance usually scores more runs than a heavier bat you have to muscle.
Cricket Bat Care and Maintenance
A well-maintained cricket bat performs better and lasts longer.
Proper bat care helps protect the willow, and reduce the chance of avoidable damage.
Unattended cracks can lead to bat damage.
Too much moisture and extreme hot conditions are both bad for the bat.
How to examine if a bat has dried up?
- Have a close look at your bat. The dried willow will lose all its shine and will look rough.
- When your bat starts sounding off, the most probable cause: it has dried up.
- What to do? Use a small amount of raw linseed oil on the face, edges, toe, and back of the bat.
- Avoid the stickers, splice, and handle during application.
- Apply oil lightly with a soft cloth or fingertips rather than soaking the willow.
- Let the bat rest in a cool, dry place after oiling.
- Two thin coats are usually enough for regular maintenance.
- Never stand the bat in a vertical position after oiling. Always keep it horizontal for at least 24 hours after oiling.
- Remember: A bat that retains moisture, performs the best.
- A common misconception: Older bats do not need oiling.
- Fact: Newer bats seldom need oiling.
Cricket Bat Storage, the correct way
- Store your English Willow cricket bat in a cool, dry space away from direct sunlight and strong heat.
- Keep it in a padded cover or case when not in use.
- Avoid leaving it in damp kit bags or hot vehicle boots for extended periods.
- If storing it long term, clean it properly and apply a light maintenance coat if needed.
When your bat needs attention
If the face starts looking dry, seam marks deepen quickly, or fine cracks begin to appear, stop use and inspect it carefully.
Small issues are easier to manage early, especially on a premium Wolfer English Willow cricket bat.
Knocking in your cricket bat
Your Tigon bat is machine pre-knocked before dispatch. A short finishing knock-in by hand is still recommended, as it prepares the willow for match impact by gradually compressing the fibres.
This helps the blade handle repeated ball contact more effectively and lowers the chance of early damage.
Manual knocking in
- Use a proper bat mallet or an older cricket ball for controlled preparation.
- Start with gentle taps on the face, do not knock the edges, round them using your mallet's handle, be gentle on the toe.
- Avoid striking the splice or handle directly.
- Increase pressure gradually over multiple sessions instead of rushing it.
- Focus on even preparation across the blade.
How long the process should take
A proper knocking-in process should take place over several hours and across multiple sessions.
Even if your English Willow bat feels strong out of the box, it still benefits from a careful preparation phase before full match use.
Before full match play
After knocking in, use the bat in throwdowns or light net sessions with older balls before facing harder new balls.
This final stage helps confirm that your English Willow bat is ready while allowing the willow to settle naturally.
