Authorities in our business will tell in no uncertain terms that Lorem Ipsum is that huge, huge no no to forswear forever. Not so fast, I'd say, there are some redeeming factors in favor of greeking text, as its use is merely the symptom of a worse problem to take into consideration.
Anyway, you still use Lorem Ipsum and rightly so, as it will always have a place in the web workers toolbox, as things happen, not always the way you like it, not always in the preferred order.

Why Wolfer?
Every Wolfer bat is hand picked by players who have actually played the game, not just factory workers ticking boxes.
Each bat is tested for weight, balance and ping before it's approved, so what reaches you is a bat that's actually been checked by someone who knows what a good pickup feels like.
Why Goshawk?
The Goshawk is a Grade 1 English Willow junior bat, built for young players who want the best willow in a size made for them.
Grade 1 English Willow gives juniors a lively rebound and a generous sweet spot, so they can play proper shots without forcing every stroke, and the lighter junior sizing keeps the pickup easy.
The clean, straight grain structure keeps the willow dense and consistent, which gives the bat its sharp, distinctive ping straight out of the box.
Who Is It Suitable For?
- Serious junior players in clubs, academies and county or regional pathways who want a top-grade bat
- Young batters moving up from Kashmir willow or lower grades of English willow who want a noticeable step up in ping and finish
- Junior players who have outgrown their current bat and want the best willow in their next size
- Parents who want a correctly sized, properly checked, premium bat that isn't too heavy for their child
Grade
Wolfer Goshawk is a Grade 1 English Willow Junior Cricket Bat.
What does it mean? It means it is selected from the top 5-10% of English willow harvested each year. It has a clean face, no stains or butterfly marks on the playing area, an excellent heartwood-to-sapwood ratio, and 12-15% moisture, which makes it an excellent bat for ambitious junior players.
Grains
Expect clean, straight, almost parallel grains. The exact count varies from bat to bat, as it does with all natural willow.
What do Grains mean for my child's bat? More grains usually mean denser willow, better ping and less knocking in. Fewer grains can perform just as well, usually with a lighter feel, but may need more knocking in. Weight, balance and pressing matter just as much, especially on a junior bat.
Profile
A balanced junior profile with a full spine and good edges, scaled to each junior size so the bat picks up light and offers a big, forgiving sweet spot for developing players.
Size
Available in junior sizes. Choose by your child's height using the Size & Weight Guide tab. A bat that fits properly helps technique far more than one chosen to be grown into.
Weight
Each size is selected to stay light enough for your child to lift comfortably and play shots with good technique. Exact weight varies slightly from bat to bat, so check the weight stated on the size you choose.

Product Disclaimer
Cricket bats are handcrafted from natural English Willow. Weight may vary by ±1-2 oz due to wood density and moisture content.
Never store cricket bats in car boots or trunks as excessive heat may cause cracking and reduce bat life.
Each cricket bat is unique and may feature minor cosmetic variations.
Use this guide as a general reference for choosing the right junior bat size. Height is the best starting point, and age is only a rough guide because children grow at different rates. Weights are typical ranges for each size; check the product listing for the exact weight of the bat you choose.

Cricket Bat Care and Maintenance
A well-maintained cricket bat performs better and lasts longer.
Proper bat care helps protect the willow, and reduce the chance of avoidable damage.
Unattended cracks can lead to bat damage.
Too much moisture and extreme hot conditions are both bad for the bat.
How to examine if a bat has dried up?
- Have a close look at your bat. The dried willow will lose all its shine and will look rough.
- When your bat starts sounding off, the most probable cause: it has dried up.
- What to do? Use a small amount of raw linseed oil on the face, edges, toe, and back of the bat.
- Avoid the stickers, splice, and handle during application.
- Apply oil lightly with a soft cloth or fingertips rather than soaking the willow.
- Let the bat rest in a cool, dry place after oiling.
- Two thin coats are usually enough for regular maintenance.
- Never stand the bat in a vertical position after oiling. Always keep it horizontal for at least 24 hours after oiling.
- Remember: A bat that retains moisture, performs the best.
- A common misconception: Older bats do not need oiling.
- Fact: Newer bats seldom need oiling.
Cricket Bat Storage, the correct way
- Store your English Willow cricket bat in a cool, dry space away from direct sunlight and strong heat.
- Keep it in a padded cover or case when not in use. Junior kit bags are often squeezed and left in cars, so check where the bat ends up between matches.
- Avoid leaving it in damp kit bags or hot vehicle boots for extended periods.
- If storing it long term, clean it properly and apply a light maintenance coat if needed.
When your bat needs attention
If the face starts looking dry, seam marks deepen quickly, or fine cracks begin to appear, stop use and inspect it carefully.
Small issues are easier to manage early, especially on a premium Wolfer English Willow cricket bat.
Knocking in your junior cricket bat
Knocking in prepares a new Wolfer cricket bat for match impact by gradually compressing the willow fibres.
This helps the blade handle repeated ball contact more effectively and lowers the chance of early damage.
For younger players, we recommend an adult does the knocking in, or supervises closely.
Manual knocking in
- Use a proper bat mallet or an older cricket ball for controlled preparation.
- Start with gentle taps on the face, do not knock the edges, round them using your mallet's handle, be gentle on the toe.
- Avoid striking the splice or handle directly.
- Increase pressure gradually over multiple sessions instead of rushing it.
- Focus on even preparation across the blade.
How long the process should take
A proper knocking-in process should take place over several hours and across multiple sessions.
Even if your English Willow bat feels strong out of the box, it still benefits from a careful preparation phase before full match use.
Before full match play
After knocking in, let your child use the bat in throwdowns or light net sessions with older balls before facing harder new balls.
Once the bat is knocked in, fit an anti-scuff sheet and a toe guard to help protect the face and toe during regular play.
What size junior cricket bat does my child need? +−
Height is the best guide, so start with the Size & Weight Guide tab. As a quick check, stand the bat upright beside your child. The top of the handle should reach roughly their hip to waist. If your child is between sizes, choose the smaller one unless their coach advises otherwise.
What does Grade 1 English willow mean on a junior bat? +−
Grade 1 is the top grade of English willow, selected from the best 5-10% of willow harvested each year. It has a clean face with no stains or butterfly marks on the playing area, a good heartwood-to-sapwood ratio, and the best grain structure, which gives the most consistent ping.
Is a Grade 1 English willow bat worth it for a junior? +−
It's worth considering if your child plays regularly with a hard cricket ball and is serious about their cricket, for example at an academy or in county or regional pathways. Because juniors outgrow bats, some families choose a lower grade for younger players and move to Grade 1 as the child gets older. For occasional or casual play, a lower grade is usually enough.
What's the difference between English willow and Kashmir willow for juniors? +−
English willow is lighter, softer and more responsive, which gives better pickup and more ping. It needs knocking in and some care. Kashmir willow is harder, heavier and cheaper, usually needs no knocking in, but gives less rebound and doesn't have the same feel.
How much should a junior cricket bat weigh? +−
It depends on the size, so check the typical weights in the Size & Weight Guide. The bat should feel light enough for your child to lift comfortably and swing under control. A bat that is too heavy tends to cause poor technique, so heavier is not better.
Should I buy a bigger bat so my child can grow into it? +−
We don't recommend it. A bat that's too long or too heavy affects balance and technique, and can make cricket less enjoyable. Choose the size that fits now, and move up when your child has grown.
Does a junior English willow bat need knocking in? +−
Yes. Like any English willow bat, it should be knocked in before it faces a hard cricket ball. See the Knocking Instructions tab for the steps, and have an adult do it or supervise.
What accessories does a junior English willow bat need? +−
We recommend an anti-scuff sheet on the face, a toe guard, a bat cover, and a proper bat mallet for knocking in. These protect the willow and help the bat last longer.
How long will a junior cricket bat last? +−
With proper knocking in and care, an English willow bat can last for several seasons. In practice, most children outgrow their bat before it wears out, so the right size matters more than longevity.
Where do you deliver and how long does it take? +−
UK dispatch usually takes 24-48 hours, while India and international dispatch usually takes 5-7 days. We deliver to Canada, the USA, South Africa, New Zealand, the UK, India, Australia, and almost anywhere in the world where a courier can reach.
