Authorities in our business will tell in no uncertain terms that Lorem Ipsum is that huge, huge no no to forswear forever. Not so fast, I'd say, there are some redeeming factors in favor of greeking text, as its use is merely the symptom of a worse problem to take into consideration.

Product care

Anyway, you still use Lorem Ipsum and rightly so, as it will always have a place in the web workers toolbox, as things happen, not always the way you like it, not always in the preferred order.

Grade

Wolfer Tigon is a Grade 1 English Willow Cricket Bat.

What does it mean? It means it is selected from the top 5-10% of English willow harvested each year. It has a clean face, no stains or butterfly marks on the playing area, an excellent heartwood-to-sapwood ratio, and 12-15% moisture, which makes it an excellent bat for advanced club and pro players.

Grains

Tigon will usually have somewhere between 6-10 straight, almost parallel grains.

What do Grains mean for my cricket bat? More grains usually mean denser willow, better ping and less knocking in. A 10-grain bat can sometimes feel a touch fuller in the hands and may mature a little faster. Lesser grains, especially 6-8 grains, may perform just as well as a 10-grainer, but usually need more knocking in and often offer a lighter feel with longer life.

Profile

Deep Spine, Thick Edges and Toe, Minimal Concaving, Duckbill to support modern-day T20 cricket for 360-degree play.

Thickness

Most Wolfer bats are between 38-40 mm to achieve the desired weight and remain MCC compliant. Grade 1 bats are usually preferred by players who play pro, so ICC and MCC regulations apply.

Weight

We try to ensure the maximum bat weight is 1190 grams to suit most batting styles and ensure great pickup, balance and ping.

Cricket Bat Care and Maintenance

A well-maintained cricket bat performs better and lasts longer.

Proper bat care helps protect the willow, and reduce the chance of avoidable damage.

Unattended cracks can lead to bat damage.

Too much moisture and extreme hot conditions are both bad for the bat.

How to examine if a bat has dried up?

  • Have a close look at your bat. The dried willow will lose all its shine and will look rough.
  • When your bat starts sounding off, the most probable cause: it has dried up.
  • What to do? Use a small amount of raw linseed oil on the face, edges, toe, and back of the bat.
  • Avoid the stickers, splice, and handle during application.
  • Apply oil lightly with a soft cloth or fingertips rather than soaking the willow.
  • Let the bat rest in a cool, dry place after oiling.
  • Two thin coats are usually enough for regular maintenance.
  • Never stand the bat in a vertical position after oiling. Always keep it horizontal for at least 24 hours after oiling.
  • Remember: A bat that retains moisture, performs the best.
  • A common misconception: Older bats do not need oiling.
  • Fact: Newer bats seldom need oiling.

Cricket Bat Storage, the correct way

  • Store your English Willow cricket bat in a cool, dry space away from direct sunlight and strong heat.
  • Keep it in a padded cover or case when not in use.
  • Avoid leaving it in damp kit bags or hot vehicle boots for extended periods.
  • If storing it long term, clean it properly and apply a light maintenance coat if needed.

When your bat needs attention

If the face starts looking dry, seam marks deepen quickly, or fine cracks begin to appear, stop use and inspect it carefully.

Small issues are easier to manage early, especially on a premium Wolfer English Willow cricket bat.

Knocking in your cricket bat

Knocking in prepares a new Wolfer cricket bat for match impact by gradually compressing the willow fibres.

This helps the blade handle repeated ball contact more effectively and lowers the chance of early damage.

Manual knocking in

  • Use a proper bat mallet or an older cricket ball for controlled preparation.
  • Start with gentle taps on the face, do not knock the edges, round them using your mallet’s handle, be gentle on the toe.
  • Avoid striking the splice or handle directly.
  • Increase pressure gradually over multiple sessions instead of rushing it.
  • Focus on even preparation across the blade.

How long the process should take

A proper knocking-in process should take place over several hours and across multiple sessions.

Even if your English Willow bat feels strong out of the box, it still benefits from a careful preparation phase before full match use.

Before full match play

After knocking in, use the bat in throwdowns or light net sessions with older balls before facing harder new balls.

This final stage helps confirm that your English Willow bat is ready while allowing the willow to settle naturally.
